Anatoliy P. Shpak (1949) is a professor, Academician of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, well-known specialist in such a scientific field as spectroscopy of solid surface. Anatoliy P. Shpak has been working at the Institute of Metallophysics of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine since 1971. From 1985 to 1996 was working as the Chief of a laboratory. Since 1996 is the head of the department of spectroscopy of solid surface; since 1998 is also the head of the applied physics department of physics-technical faculty of National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnical Institute”; since 2002 is the head of G.V.Kurdyumov Institute of Metallophysics of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Anatoliy P. Shpak has being widely used modern experimental methods of researches: X-ray photography and X-ray electronic spectroscopy, electronic microscopy and electron diffraction investigation, resonance methods of ЯМР, ЕПР, ЯГР, EXAFS-spectroscopy. He is the author of the physicochemical basis of such a new scientific direction as science of cluster materials resulting from fundamental researches of atomic and electronic structures of low-dimensional systems.            Anatoliy P. Shpak is an energetic scientist, communicative, sociable, easy-tempered and businesslike man, who has done much for the development of our Institute. Since 1977 has been combining scientific work with scientific-organizational activity in the apparatus of the Presidium of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He was the chief of scientific-organizational section, since 1994 is a Leading scientific secretary, and since 1998 is the first vice-president of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Anatoliy P. Shpak is Ukraine State prize winner, mer­ited worker of science and engineering of Ukraine.
